on the barricade for a dutch Craft cider Revolution
In The Netherlands we don’t have a cider culture. Never had one. Thus for now no strict ideas on how cider should be made right?
Funny enough there are people here that say you cannot make proper cider without the use of specific “cider apples”. Well there is one problem.. None of those so called bittersweet or bittersharp cider apples grow in our flat little country. Some say you cannot make cider from anything else than apples. So no added hops, herbs, spices, fruits, sulphites, yeast or sugars.
There also is a group of people that don’t think… and just drink cider made from water, sugars, artificial flavours and with all types of fruits added. And they love this so called “cider”. That’s the majority of cider drinkers around the world anyway.
Others say only 100% pure apple juice and no concentrate can be used to make cider. Or cider should be bone dry only. Or no, sweet the normandy way.. and you have to grow the tree’s and apples yourself too.
And we have this: “only the best apple are used” stolen and processed into cider by a fox?
A great mixture of opinions and ideas in just a tiny little country. At least we have the “poldermodel”.
Here is the good news:
